Husband who stabbed wife gets 14 years in jail
A Belize City husband who stabbed his wife and her twelve year old son has been sentenced to spend the next eight years behind bars. According to court reports, when thirty-two year Alfred Billary appeared before Justice Troadio Gonzalez this morning he told the court that he had no character witnesses to call and would choose to remain silent during the sentencing. After that statement, Gonzalez ordered that Billary serve eight years for Use of Deadly Means of Harm against his wife Erna Bethran and four years for the Grievous Harm of his step-son. The sentences are concurrent so he will only be confined in Hattieville eight years. In the early morning hours of April twenty-second, an enraged Billary attacked Bethran with a knife, stabbing her in the chest and abdomen. When the boy tried to help his mother, he was stabbed in the back. Billary had initially been charged with the Attempted Murder of Bethran but that charge was withdrawn after he pled guilty to the lesser count of Deadly Means of Harm.
