Credit Union robbed at San Pedro

Police in San Pedro are investigating a brazen mid-morning robbery which took place today at the St. Francis Xavier Credit Union. Just before ten a.m. three men walked into the financial institution located on Lagoon Street. Once inside the trio beat up the security guard, relieved him of his point thirty-eight handgun, and then went behind the counter where two tellers were stationed. At gunpoint they then stole almost eight thousand dollars. With the cash in tow, the thieves made their getaway by boat. There were no customers in the credit union at the time of the hold-up but several walked up to the building while the robbery was in progress and were able to call for help. We also understand that the entire incident was caught on camera. According to branch manager Elvis Canul, following a similar attack on the Credit Union’s Sarteneja branch two years ago, all offices are equipped with surveillance devices. San Pedro police are currently reviewing the tape in an effort to identify and track down the culprits.
In the July 2006 incident in Sarteneja, the thieves made off with fifty-one thousand dollars from a safe. The money was never recovered and no one was ever arrested for the theft.
