“I don’t think anybody in this country would dispute the fact or argue with the fact that we want reliable energy, please man that is understood. So let’s not make that the rallying point on who provides that reliable energy. The second thing is, there is only one distributor of that energy, Belize Electricity Limited, a company duly constituted with a significant portion of local investment through the S.S.B. and an even larger portion through a foreign company, Fortis. But the management of the company is fully local. The board had competent local people sitting on it; the government had people sitting on it. This has to speak to ownership of property in order to manage this. And all that the debate began with—and unfortunately I don’t know what it will end with—is how can the government then get control of energy to ensure its reliability; that’s the issue. And the government said that the way to do this is to acquire the shares so we have control of the company. This has nothing to do with—the debate should never be taking it away from foreigners. The government made its case and clearly the population agreed with the government’s case. That is part of the healthy democracy. The private sector does not agree with the case, that is also part of the healthy democracy. Let us not malign one another and be throwing mud and slinging back and forth man. That is part of the healthy democracy.”

Who did the government refuse to repatriate to Belize in the 90s for US $100m from Haiti? BLACK PEOPLE. Who suffers the most from crime in Belize? BLACK PEOPLE Who do not have ‘jobs’ in the Banks, the Corporate Offices and major hotel chains? BLACK PEOPLE. After the Economy it is always about race. The international system is design to control wealth which controls economic and military power but who does not control it? BLACK PEOPLE. who cannot pay for medical care in Belize? BLACK PEOPLE. When a company is failing or have serious cash flow difficulties, the owners should be the one to re-invest in the company to keep it surviving. Certainly not their customers.
Everything in Belize is about RACE so let’s not fool ourselves. Be black and try to succeed in Orange Walk or Corozal they will make sure they do not support you just because you are BLACK and not one of them. Stop trying to sweep racism under the carpet because it is alive and well in Belize as it is in the rest of the world. Black people have to work twice as hard and be twice as smart to succeed in life and in Belize you have to be of a certain race and be known and accepted by a certain race just to get ahead. God help you if you are Black and not know the right people in Belize.

I share your sentiment. But we must remain cognizant that many of the youths that fall victims of crime, fall due to their lifestyle….im not saying all.
I wont say their is no discrimination in some of the districts and San Pedro Town for example, but why has it become so? Many of the crime in these areas are being carried out by young, unemployed black men…sadly.
I believe that really change will come eventually since we have to start changing the culture…start promoting a sense for self-sufficiencey. When we start educating our young kids that we must work a “legal” job to stay out of trouble and also to progress. I know a lot of hard working blacks who are doing really good. Why? Because they get educated, are hard working even its contruction they are doing..eventually they become contractors and make more money that the people with a high education. Hard work pays, education is the key…time to change our culture and becoming productive citizens…that respect and earn respect.
Disappointed:I totally agree with your statement.Most Belizeans are afraid to talk about these issues beause they’re afraid of someone refering to them as been racist.However there is nothing racist about saying the truth.We as Belizeans need to stop acting like a bunch of cowards and step up to the plate.Hence the reason the politicians think we’re fools.
