Hundreds of Millions of dollars pledged for Central American Security Strategy

Dean Barrow

The international conference in support of Central American Security Strategy was held earlier this week. It focused on the financing needed to fight organized crime and narco-trafficking. Fifty delegations from across the region attended including Prime Minister of Belize Dean Barrow. The U.S. delegation headed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pledged hundreds of million dollars in support through its Central America Regional Security Initiative (CARSI) program.  Several joint projects were detailed at the meeting in Guatemala.  When the PM arrived on Thursday evening he gave an update on the conference.

Dean Barrow

“I missed Secretary Clinton’s speech; when she was talking I was I believe meeting with Calderon because she came late. But she has promised that the United States will assist the regional security effort. I believe earlier when President Obama had gone to El Salvador, he has already talked about two hundred million U.S. dollars by way of support for the CARSI initiative. She talked about three hundred so presumably there is an additional hundred million dollars to be spent by the United States. This was a kind of pledging conference and the multilateral institutions, the world bank, the IDB and people like that all pledged to assist. It was also about confirming the action plan for regional collaboration for the kind of cooperation among the regional security forces that would see us together become more effective with dealing with this whole question of citizen safety and trying to stem the tide of violence that’s been overtaking all our societies. So from that point of view, it was a good conference.”

The conference was organized by the Central American Integration System which seeks support to achieve a safe region with so-called democratic governability.  It is currently chaired by Guatemala.

Although this current US Administration has nothing to do with the stupid Contra war in Central America, still its contributed tremendously to much of the social ills of the region. There is an abundant amount of information about those who spear headed the war that were also involved in major drugs trafficking. They are presumably off the stage but the problem still exist. I wonder how much of all the money will be use for positive social restructering?

what make me laugh is the way he does represent us. he goes for this meeting specially but instead sit and gossip with calderon about BEL while the meeting is going on, what the hell is he thinking so after all he never attended the meeting for real. that also means that not even calderon heard the speech due to hearing the cry baby barrow about BEL downfall when calderon is plauged with drugg cartels. i really don’t think this is true calderon must have been a “have to be thre president” and miss that. come on, barrow i’ll believe you whenever i see you grow hear on that baldhead good for nothing then i will believe what you say. overall your a reall shame and joke.
