Special Olympics Athletes win in Greece

A delegation of eight Special Olympics athletes are in Greece, making their debut in the Summer Football Games, which started on Saturday. Team Belize played its first game today against Indonesia and claimed its first victory. According to the head coach, Andy Aspinall, nerves got the best of the athletes early in the game and mistakes allowed Indonesia to score the first goal.  But that was just the push the team needed to take control of the game and at the whistle it was Belize two, Indonesia one. The first goal was by Jerrilee Valentine and Sidney Rhaburn scored the match winner in the final three seconds. Today’s win puts Belize at the top of its group, which also includes Singapore and Chile.  The team goes up against Chile on Wednesday and Singapore on Thursday.
