Activist, Moses Sulph, will sue government
Moses Sulph was fired earlier this year after his organization, the Citizens Organized for Liberty through Action (COLA), staged a campout protest in front of the Prime Minister’s Office in the Capital. Amongst his supporters, the Public Service Union has called for his reinstatement. But that hasn’t happened, and his name has been smeared with allegations of wrongdoing at his desk at the General Registry. Allegations aside, no formal charges or official reason has ever been given for his dismissal. In addition to keeping his activism embedded in current issues, Sulph has been trying unsuccessfully to get documents from the Registry regarding his employment. Sulph told News Five today that he will sue the government.

“I’ve been trying for the past two months to obtain a copy of my forms, my files at the registry. The two files that I am trying to obtain are a copy of my appraisal and a copy of the form that shows the estimate against the post that I held. I am constantly refused by the head of department to obtain the copy of these files. I have written, with advice of union, to the registrar to obtain the files which is even a step I shouldn’t have to take in the first place. I should have obtained a copy from the F.O.—with the financial person—but she refused to give it due to the fact that she was advised by registrar not to give me a copy of my file. I then wrote a letter to the registrar to try and request getting the file along with my president. She refused to then give us that audience that we wanted to have with her to get the files. I then went back on another occasion and she refused to see me saying that she has no time to see me because I am not a member of the public service anymore. I then tried to see the acting C.J., since he is the Head of the Court, to advise her in giving me my file. I was told that the C.J. doesn’t see the public; so I was refused there again. This morning, I then went back to the registrar in a last attempt to try and see how this can be settled in a diplomatic matter. She blatantly told the secretary on the phone that she has no time to see me; I don’t work there—she has no need to give me the file. And this person is a lawyer who clearly understands that under the law, it is by law that I am entitled to get a freedom of information act to get a copy of my file and she refused to give this. So this is my last discourse and I hope from here that I don’t have to file something in the court to try and pursue or to give me a copy of my file because she refuse to give me a copy of my file and this is the registrar, Misses Velda Flowers.”

“Do you intend to take out a suit against the government or the registrar?”
Moses Sulph
“I intend to take a suit out against the government for the way they terminated me.”
Boy why dont you go back to Jamaica? No Belizean would be allowed to act this way in any other caribbean nation. Belize is your host, act well while you are in our house, man.
He getting like Shackron now, just want attention. Dude why don’t you just try get a job somewhere else and stop playing politics.

I hate when people like javier solis act stupid. what do you mean no Belizean would be allowed to act this way. You sound like you work for the UDP government who’s policy lately is ” just shut up and do what we tell you.” The man is entitled to his paperwork and a reason for being fired. if he is from Jamaica it’s irrelevant you racist pig.
Moses i share your sentiments brother and i know it’s not going to be easy.If this tyrant Dean Barrow refused to adhere to a court order then i really don’t know who he’s going to listen to.
We are a Caricom nation and as such we enjoy the same rights. I can go to Jamacia and should enjoy those same rights..if I am not shot dead first. He is excercising the same rights all of us have “to express himself”. But Moses…somehow i think you really like the cameras and attention. You must watch a lot of reality television. If you want to win the Belizean Public and have them take you seriously then you need to change your ways…
When someone comes to my house, he abides by my rules or get the hell out. This man sulph is lazy and politically ambitious. It will be a cold day in hell before i would vote for any “foreigner” to our parliament, including you. Judging by the false name you took, i know where your sympathy lies. If the hat fits, wear it, foreigner. dont you see this creep is only looking for attention, and trying to sound important? He is so facey that he wanted to see the CJ to settle his complaint. You can call me any name, for me, Belizeans First.
Javier, I totally agree with you. If he knew he needed his job, he should have coiled his little @$$ in a corner from day one. Only people that works for the government can be having these protest, as if suddenly the world is falling down on them. Work for the private sectors like myself and see if you would be protesting and putting your job on the line? Everyone should know presently that jobs are scarce, so everyone should be taking care of their opportunity and cherishing it.
Mr. javier
“Now there is a final reason I think that Jesus says, “Love your enemies.” It is this: that love has within it a redemptive power. And there is a power there that eventually transforms individuals. Just keep being friendly to that person. Just keep loving them, and they can’t stand it too long. Oh, they react in many ways in the beginning. They react with guilt feelings, and sometimes they’ll hate you a little more at that transition period, but just keep loving them. And by the power of your love they will break down under the load. That’s love, you see. It is redemptive, and this is why Jesus says love. There’s something about love that builds up and is creative. There is something about hate that tears down and is destructive. So love your enemies. (from “Loving Your Enemies”)”

Regardless if I had a Job with government I have all right to speak out against the unnecessary suffering our fellow humans are facing, if 44% poverty, 23% unemployment, high cost of living, above $10 per gallon of gas at the pump, over 50% of the high school age out of school, is not a call for concern then I am not sure what is, regardless of which government is on capital hill we must all be concern about our brothers and sisters who are suffering, while a few friend and family member are living way above the rest. I will always be concerned..
An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”
