Renationalization of Telemedia; will Opposition protest in absence?

As the legal battles mount, earlier today a communiqué was sent out from the National Assembly notifying of the special sitting of the House and Senate this coming Monday in Belmopan regarding the re-nationalization of Telemedia. From what we gather parliamentarians have received the notice of the sittings to consider the Bill for an act to amend the Belize Telecommunications Act Number sixteen of 2002 to “clarify and expand certain positions relating to the assumption of control over telecommunication by the government in the public interest.” That’s the name of the bill but the bill itself has not been released because the legislation to repossess is still being drafted. The bill will be rammed through three readings, debated and will go before the Senate on the same day to be followed by the governor general’s signature. But will the opposition go to the House? We checked around since they did not go last week when B.E.L. was also nationalized by the government. From what we gather, the P.U.P. parliamentarians will be present, expect for Area Representatives Mark Espat and Cordel Hyde. And how will they vote? The caucus of parliamentarians met this afternoon to decide. But there is some indication because the western and southern caucuses of the P.U.P. today issued a release saying that they join the fight against the Government of Belize to abide by the rule of law and follow through with the judgment of the court in respect to business and properties in general.
