Accused robber shot by cops after drawing gun

Story PictureA suspect who was wanted in connection with a string of robberies over the past few weeks is in stable condition after he was shot by cops after he drew a gun on the officers. Police say that at around three forty-five on Saturday afternoon they responded to a report of a shooting in front of Henry’s Bar on Central American Boulevard. A police patrol vehicle in the area spotted the suspect, twenty-two year old Jarrett Crawford, a resident of Antelope Street. When they approached he reportedly threw down the bicycle he was riding and ran into a yard. Police say they followed Crawford, who produced a gun and pointed it at them. The officers responded by shooting Crawford in the left side of the abdomen. When they searched him, police found a loaded point twenty-five calibre pistol, as well as a cell phone and pendant which were stolen in a robbery on Friday at Shop and Save Store on King Street. Also on Crawford were a wrist watch, and other jewellery which police cannot say were his personal belongings or items stolen in a previous robbery. Crawford was released from the K.H.M.H. and charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition and six counts of Robbery. He was remanded to prison until a Thursday court date.
