Monetary settlement given to teen who was beaten
The sensational battle between prominent cardiologist, Dr. John Gough and his neighbor Egbert Nicholson versus the family of sixteen year old Carlos Zelaya Junior started last year and ended today with a settlement. Nicholson was convicted of wounding while Gough was exonerated in the Magistrates Court, but the Zelaya family filed a civil suit against them. This morning both parties agreed on a handsome settlement before Justice Oswell Legall but the exact figure was not disclosed. Attorney for the Zelaya Family, Kareem Musa, says they were prepared to start the trial, but Gough and his attorney approached him and offered to pay for the injuries Zelaya suffered in February 2010. The teen reported that he was pursued and beaten by both accused men after he was seen leaving Gough’s house. Since the day of the incident, Gough has maintained that he never hit Zelaya.
