Justice of Peace President confirms alleged attacker is JP

You’ve just heard one politician’s view about developments in the area where Reginald Cumberbatch is accused of taking advantage of a youth. But who exactly is Reginald Cumberbatch and why was the Belize City man offering services in Succotz? Believe it or not, Cumberbatch is a Justice of the Peace. According to the President of the J.P. Association, Adrian “Danny” Madrid, Cumberbatch is on a growing list of J.P.’s gone rogue. Madrid says that this is because the office of the Attorney General has done nothing to make the Justice of the Peace ACT, a legal document.

“Roy Cumberbatch is a Justice of the Peace. I think he has been a Justice of the Peace for many years. I know the guy, but he has never attended any of the meetings. He has never been a member of the association although I have invited him once. After that, I got information from about three different persons that this J.P. was charging people for his services. I tried to contact him but wasn’t able. As a matter of fact, about three or four months ago, a young lady from Cayo District came to me and showed me a paper where this same guy, Cumberbatch, charged her three hundred dollars to do some paper work for her at the vital statistics office. And the reason she couldn’t do it because of the time she was working and she had to go back to Cayo. So he offered to do the job for her—charging her three hundred dollars. And she never heard from him, so she was directed to myself. I took down her name and I said I would try to assist you the best that I can. But again I explained to her where as Justice of the Peace Association, because the act has never been signed into law, there is not much that we can do. But I tried to contact this same JP and wasn’t able to contact him. About two other persons called and said that he is usually by an office harassing people and charging them. I tried to find him, but we couldn’t find him and then we eventually found out that he was traveling to the districts—doing the same thing in the districts. And that’s what led to this incident where he apparently tried to molest this guy and also get money from him and from the family to do certain type of work for JPs—that a JP should not charge for his services. So that’s what I say on the news that he was beaten. And I think if he has done wrong, he deserves it—the people did a service to the community and to the association.”

“It’s really frustrating because I was at a meeting on Saturday in Belmopan where we had a second quarterly meeting and a JP came up and said Mister Madrid you are not doing a good job because look what’s happening in our country. And I said, it’s possible that I am not doing a good job, but I can tell you that myself and the association has tried for three and a half years to get this act signed into law. If this act was signed into law today, this JP that committed this crime and other JPs that committed other crimes would be dealt with by the association. Today only the Attorney General can do this guy whatever he wishes to do.”
I think we should have a law that provides that whenever an official — justice of the peace, police, government minister, etc. — commits a crime, the SENTENCE MUST BE DOUBLED.
MAYBE that would help end the epidemic of corruption that is murdering the Jewel.

What do you expect these justice of the peace were placed in these positions by the same dirty corrupted politicians that run the country and these same politicians are likely receiving kickbacks from the fees they charge illegally, welcome to Belize where corruption in government is a way of life. I believe that those in law enforcement should be held to a higher standard of unholding the law. It is sad how the poor in Belize just get walked on by every body. When education in the country went down hill, so much bad things began to happen to people. When is it going to change.
I understand that all that was needed for the JP act to become law was the signature of the Minister who failed to do so and it happened during the past administration. We hear that this present minister is following in the foot of the past minister. Mr. Minister, please put your damn signature and do the Belizean people the service for which you are being paid good money!.

This is the time that all JP’s association should make provisions to sign the act into law. I know of JP’s that would charge for this service. I that is wrong.
Are pamphlets avialable to the public in respect to a JP’s job description? this would also be a good start.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW UNDER WHICH GOVERNMENT HE WAS GIVEN THE TITLE OF JP? THAT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW.
IT IS SO SAD WHEN EVERY DICK, TOM AND HARRY CAN BE JPs WHEN THERE SO MANY WELL RESPECTED PERSON IN OUR COMMUNITY.

IF THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS MAN COMMIT AN OFFENCE WHY DON’T THEY STRIPPED OFF THE TITLE FROM HIM?

if there was so many complains about this man why danny madrid didn’t report it to the police, they would have found him and maybe this poor child would have gone through such traumatic expireince.
i hope justice be done and this man stays is jail for a long time.
such a pity the people from succotz didn’t kill him, that would have been the best to do him and it would have save money and time to the workers of belize.

THERE IS NO HONOR IN THESE APPOINTMENTS WHEN ITS GIVEN OUT LIKE CANDY. IT JUST SHOWS A POOR REFLECTION ON THE ONES THAT WANT TO DO A GOOD JOB AND DO CARE ABOUT THEIR COMMUNITIES.

People no amatter what office they hold should not be excused if they are Lawless and that include the barrow administration..
