James Adderley has the latest sporting news
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and you’re very welcome to this delivery of Sports Monday. Week five of the Belize Bank Super League brought San Felipe Barcelona to Belize City yesterday, hosted by Kraal Road inside the M.C.C. Grounds. After a rather controversial start to the season Kraal Road looks to strike early when Tyrone Muschamp frees up Raymond Gentle who should have done better with this open look. San Felipe responds with this nice center from Damian Ku, but the subsequent header by Hector Martinez was kept out by the goalkeeper and then cleared. In the meantime this spot kick launched by Raymond Gentle gets to the perfect spot for a strike at goal, but that simply does not happen. At the other end, Christopher Hendrix displays good ball control when he turns on this half volley. The goalkeeper does well to punch it out, but right to Harvey Cruz who gets it to Hector Martinez and the visitors take a 1-zip lead.
Twenty-nine minutes in this Kraal Road press, Delroy Andrews launches this grass head burner that forces the keeper into an unconvincing save and somehow Tyrone Muschamp in his attempt to follow up gets the defenders right boot to move and not the ball. Folks we’re five minutes into second half when Damian Ku catches up with this pass and this left foot goal almost looks professional as San Felipe Barcelona goes up 2-0. This forces the home team to go offensive and this shot by Leon Jones is kept out at the last second by the Barcelona keeper. Off this corner kick, Kraal Road gets three chances to score that ends with this bullet from Tyrone Muschamp that is corralled by the keeper.
We’re at the seventy-fourth minute of play when Leon Jones catches up will this pass from the left side and he buries it to get Kraal Road on the scoreboard. About a minute later, Carlos Cawich fails to clear this ball properly giving possession to Tyrone Muschamp and just like that we’re tied at two a piece. Folks we’ve got to say Leon Jones gets the perfect chance to put his team in the lead for the first time in this match but launches a high riser from point blank range. Conversely Kenny Witzil takes advantage of this half chance by positioning himself between the goalkeeper and his defender and its San Felipe who take a 3-2 lead at the eighty-third minute. Does Kraal road have comeback in them? Well, we’re at the ninetieth minute when Tyrone Muschamp picks up this past against a poorly positioned defense and he scores his second goal of the outing to force the 3-3 final score.
In other action around the league, Paradise Freedom Fighters crushed Hattieville 4-8. Cayo South United and San Pedro Islanders settled for a 2-all stalemate, Santa-Elena Synergy mashed Placencia Assassins 6-1. While the defending champions Valley Renaissance burned Lexmer United 3-2. Looking to this weekend’s schedule; on Saturday, San Pedro will host Valley Renaissance, while on Sunday, San Felipe heads to Lexmer United. Cayo South travels to Freedom Fighters, Placencia Assassins will host Kraal Road and Hattieville FS will be at home against Santa Elena Synergy.
In other football news, here are results from play in the Belize Premier Football League. Over the weekend, San Pedro Dolphins and Hankook Verde battled out a 2-2 draw while Wagiya shocked F.C. Belize 2-1.The BPFL’s schedule this coming Sunday finds F.C. Belize hosting Nizhie Corozal at four p.m. Wagiya travels to San Pedro for a two-thirty p.m. take while Hankook Verde will host the B.D.F. at four p.m.
New return to the M.C.C. grounds where on Saturday, the Veteran footballers of the Jewel continued their fundraising to help former goalkeeper, Delmar Sutherland pay for dialysis treatment with another clash between the north and the city. And we want to say to all the guys you put on a great show. Here’s Albert Hoare player, manager sponsor, owner and public servant and well maybe he wants to ass pilot to the list. One thing we can say about national sports director, Anthony Michael, he knows the game of football and he gives Belize City a 1-zip lead to take into the half. When the action resumed, Robert Cunningham gives the City a 2-zip lead after getting a second chance. How about a blast from the past, as the mighty Asteham Hall launches his patented long distance bomb that crashes into the net to make it a 2-1 score line. For the north, the equalizer comes when John Ishmael Trapp left foot this bullet into the net as the show settles for a 2-2 final score. We say thanks to all the participants who stepped up for a worthy cause and hopefully Delmar Sutherland and all with his particular health problem will get the help they so deserve.
Finally folks, it’s national Celebrations time, so we take time out to highlight a man we consider a national hero. Ray Menzies has helped the Saint John’s Anglican Primary School for five years as City basketball champ and four years as National champ. He took Wesley College female to undefeated back to back national basketball championship and Wesley Upper School to the female softball city title among other achievements.
Ray Menzies
“I am a lover of sports, you know, my main sport was basketball. I’ve been working with children of all ages basketball and softball. Right now presently, I’m working with the Ministry of Education as sports coordinator for the sixty-seven primary schools in the Belize district. And it gives me great joy to know that I’m in this position to do more for these kids because they are the true future athletes of this country.”

“And how is your dream going of helping the youths rise to the levels that they can reach?”
Ray Menzies
“Well, so far it’s been moving along slowly but surely. And I hope and intend that by the end of the 2009-2010 school year that the kids will achieve much more than they have been achieving so far in their P.E. lessons and the different disciplines that they love to play. We should all get together and try to see just how much we can do to help these kids because James, this is our future—the children in the primary schools are the future of our beloved country.”
We take this opportunity to salute Ray Menzies and we wish him the very best in the future. Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
