Fashion show will raise funds for Y.W.C.A.
Each year the Young Women’s Christian Association raises funds to finance its Helping Early Leavers Programme. The two-year initiative caters to young girls who for one reason or another cannot enter high school. Through fundraisers like the Celebrity Fashion Showcase scheduled for Saturday night, the girls can receive valuable training in the areas of hospitality, catering, cosmetology and sewing. The event, say organizers, promises to be another sell-out.

“All the media celebrities and the personalities from the different offices, the banks, the insurance companies, the investment companies they participated volunteering their time and talent. So we’re asking them to do it again. Last year we had like seventy models, this year I think we’re going to have a little bit more. We also have Reecie Pollard, who is the Karaoke Queen, she will be performing, and Santino “the Chief” Castillo will be performing his signature piece and we also have a Japanese group that will be doing a Japanese dance. The models will be modelling in eight segments, starting with the students who go to school here. They’re going to be making their own clothing and they’re going to be in the segment called “A Touch of Class”. Everybody will be wearing denim in that segment.”
The “Y” also offers the same courses in the evenings to adults. Saturday’s show in the King’s Room at the Princess Hotel will also feature a segment on domestic violence, and a parade of cultures. Starting time is seven. Tickets sell for fifteen dollars in advance at the Y’s office on Saint Thomas Street and twenty dollars at the door.
