Cops investigate robberies in Belize City, Belmopan
A pair of armed robberies have police in Belize City and Belmopan looking hard for leads. On Monday morning around eleven thirty-two, two men were jacked while patronising a grocery shop on George Street. They were confronted by a pair of assailants, one of whom pointed a nine millimetre pistol at them and demanded their valuables. The duo escaped with gold chains, a cell phone, and a small amount of cash. The robbers, whose pictures are believed to have been captured on video tape, are described only as “dark complexioned.”
A report from Belmopan police indicates that last Friday tour guide Walter Santos, employed at Cave’s Branch Jungle Lodge, was driving down the resort’s entrance road off the Hummingbird Highway when he saw a female fellow employee signalling for a ride. Santos stopped for the woman but as he did so two men ran toward him, one of whom brandished a gun. He was ordered out of his car and the two men drove off. The four-door maroon Mazda has yet to be recovered and the robbers, both described as five foot five of Creole descent, remain at large.
