St. Ignatius student wins raffle
A young student from St. Ignatius Primary was the most popular girl on campus today all because she bought a pencil. Seven year-old Kenisha Young was the first prize winner for the Belize District in a national back to school raffle organized by the importers of Bic brand stationery, Emilio Ahmad and Sons. According to Principal Roman Magana, beginning in August every St. Ignatius student who bought pens, markers, exercise books and pencils got a raffle ticket.

“I normally make deals with stationery places for pens, books and so on. Some people from Corozal, the gentleman over there, came to the school and showed me the products, showed me the prices of the products and I thought they were very convenient for the school and I said I would take some so it was then that they told me they had a special promotion and that he would give me some tickets for the products.”
“I’m surprised honestly but I really appreciate it.”
Marion Ali
“Your school won what; I’m looking at a stereo, some football?”
Roman Magana
“Stereo, footballs, and fans, and stationery products.”
Lucia Arias, Marketing Representative, Emilio Ahmad & Sons Ltd.
“For every three stationery product that the students buy they receive a ticket and participate in a raffle. The student who win in each district give the opportunity to their school to receive prizes also. The prizes that the student win are a bicycle, a backpack, and a package of Bic stationery products.”
Tiffany Poper, Mother of Kenisha Young, Winner of Bic Raffle
“I taught her a lesson that whenever you lose your pencil you need to take your break money and buy back your pencil so I guess that whenever she lost her pencil she just took her shilling and bought her pencil and I guess she bought it from the lower division principal and she came home and told me she got a ticket. And on Friday the principal called my mother and told me that she won a prize and I need to be here for eleven o’clock today.”
The total prize package for Saint Ignatius Primary is valued at fifteen hundred dollars. Similar ceremonies will take place at schools across the country for the other district winners.
