City kids Get up and Run

For the past five weeks, the Belize City Council has been hosting its Get Up and Run Summer Camp. Participants were involved in sports including basketball, track and field, football, volleyball and swimming. They also took a course in administering CPR. The camp provided constructive and healthy activities to youths of south side Belize City, keeping them occupied and out of harm’s way. With the new school year quickly approaching, the camp officially closed today with a ceremony, which was used to distribute certificates to the participants.

“Sports is a time to truly develop your mind, you body and your overall well being. It truly boosts your mind, burns fat and keeps you healthy. We, the Belize City Council, are glad to know that you, our young people; you are the future of Belize City and we are doing our part to help shape you for a bright, healthier, happier future. We are pleased that close to four hundred of you young people were able to take this opportunity at this very well rounded summer camp. This was your summer camp and you seized it. And while this summer camp was the brain child and was hosted by us at the Belize City Council, we are pleased that we had the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF as the main sponsor. They co-sponsored with us for this summer camp and we had the direct resources and expertise of the Belize Red Cross Association and the Amateur Athletics Association.”
