Consultations on the 9th Amendment in Orange Walk

The Ninth Amendment public consultations are taking place at the Multipurpose Complex in Orange Walk Town this evening. Word is that as early as five o’clock, persons began trickling in to the venue. There is tight security and heavy police presence. Both political parties have mobilized for the event and their supporters have been bused in from the surrounding villages to either applaud or oppose the constitutional amendment. There’s plenty at stake because it’s the backyard of both the PUP leader and the UDP’s current Acting Prime Minister. Both, we are told, are flexing their muscle.  We’ll have more on the hearing in Thursday’s newscast.
