Fond memories of Carnival 2011
Saturday’s Carnival Road March was one of the shortest in recent memory, but it was a still a grand showing of vibrant costumes and the latest dance moves to Ernestine Carballo’s hit song. But this year, in the wave of colors that swept through the city streets, the mas bands portrayed messages about social and environmental issues affecting the country. And after parading and performing at set judging stations, in the carnival, Southside Masqueraders was named the number one band for 2011. Coming in second was Mother Nature’s Creations followed by Soca Warriors in third. Here are some highlights from the weekend bacchanal.

Before the road march, some revelers got the party started from as early as five a.m. in the Jouvert, which drew a massive crowd this year.
