City Councilor laid to rest
A funeral service was held this afternoon at the St. John’s Cathedral for city councilor Andrew Faber, who died along with two other persons in a traffic accident on Tuesday on the Placencia Road. Faber’s funeral drew dozens of family, friends and employees of the Belize City Council and it was attended by a number of government officials including Prime Minister Dean Barrow. Others lined up the streets to pay their last respects as the procession made its way through the city. Faber was the younger brother of Minister of Education Patrick Faber. He was the youngest candidate on the U.D.P. slate to be elected to office at City Hall in 2009 during the last municipal elections. As a councilor, Faber’s portfolio was Youth, Sports and After School Programs. The twenty-eight year old was returning from an overnight trip to Placencia along with his cousin Virginia Azueta and friend Gianni Taylor when the Mitsubishi pickup he was driving skidded off the road and overturned in a nearby ditch. Faber, according to post mortem results, died on impact while his passengers, who were trapped by their seatbelts in the upturned vehicle, drowned in the shallow trench. Twenty-three year old Gianni Taylor will be buried at ten o’clock on Saturday morning at St. Mary’s Church while the body of Virginia Azueta has been flown back to the United States for burial.
