Sri Lankans moviemakers to be deported

You’ve heard about the Sri Lankan moviemakers, who entered the country a few weeks ago posing as a production unit. There was always the lingering suspicion that they weren’t in the movie business and last week, eleven were charged for willfully supplying false information to an immigration officer.  Their detention at the Hattieville Prison when they were unable to pay a three hundred and fifty dollar fine has resulted in a deportation order to Sri Lanka following a court appearance today before Magistrate Dorothy Flowers.  They were jointly read an order of expulsion since they no longer possess valid visas to remain in Belize.  According to an assistant of the phony filmmakers the fine had been paid on Monday; however, he was later informed that they would not be released from prison because another charge was pending.  That charge was not levied; instead they were further remanded until their expulsion, which can be as early as Friday.  Ordinarily, residents of Commonwealth countries cannot be deported but because the Immigration Act was purposely violated they were deemed prohibited immigrants.
