Orange Walk cyclist killed in hit and run
The police have yet another hit and run mystery to solve. The accident that occurred just before seven on Monday night took the life of forty-eight year old Daniel Diaz. Diaz, a mason of Trial Farm Village in the Orange Walk District, was riding his bicycle on the right hand side of the Northern Highway between miles fifty-five and fifty-six when he was knocked down and killed. The driver of the unidentified vehicle did not stop. The impact was so great that the only way Diaz was identified was by the clothes he was wearing. Edgar Copo, a family friend who made the I.D., says he just happened to be returning from Corozal when he came upon the gruesome scene. Today Copo appealed to the driver to turn him or herself in and to anyone who has information on the crime to call the nearest police station.
Edgar Copo, Friend of Deceased
“Very bad, you couldn’t recognise the face, only the body. Well by the way he was dressed, we manage to recognise the body because like couple hours before the accident we saw him. We saw him and we actually just hailed him and we headed to Corozal to left my parents.”
“Actually yeah, we would like to ask the police to try their best to look for the person who knocked him down because you can’t manage fi lost somebody who was like really good with us and used to be with us in good and bad times.”
Jacqueline Godwin
“And you believe that the driver must have known that he hit someone, just from the injuries that Mr. Diaz sustained?”
Edgar Copo
“Yeah. He must, I mean actually he knocked him down and I noh know what kind of driver is that.”
If you have any information that can lead police to the driver who killed Daniel Diaz, call the nearest police station, Crimestoppers or contact the family at telephone numbers 626–2003, 660–2701 or 302–0268.
