Bailey-Martinez finally hands in report
It took her longer than expected, but late this afternoon Merlene Bailey Martinez, co-chair of the Commission of Inquiry into the Development Finance Corporation, delivered her report to the Prime Minister. It has not yet been announced how the report will be made available to the public. On July twelfth co-chair Herbert Lord elected to submit his own report to the P.M., which was briefly posted on the Government’s website. Among a number of conclusions that criticised the running of the D.F.C., Lord wrote: “The Board of Directors, especially the first board of 1999-2003, some members, its chairman and deputy handled this institution as an extension of their own private business.” Based on her demeanour during the public hearings, the Bailey Martinez report is expected to be more detailed and more critical than that submitted by Lord.
