Businessman loses cash, gun in robbery
While Corozal police have made an arrest in the Riverol murder, tonight they are still looking for two robbers who stole thousands of dollars in cash and a handgun from a local businessman. Construction supplies retailer Ricardo Gomez has reported that around five-thirty on Friday evening, he was crossing the double lane boulevard that separates his business and his home when a masked man armed with a handgun held him up. Gomez put up a fight but during the scuffle, the weapon fired and the businessman was struck in the left leg. As he fell bleeding to the ground, the attacker grabbed Gomez’s briefcase containing approximately four thousand five hundred dollars and his licensed thirty-eight revolver. The thieves took off in their getaway car towards the San Andres Road and disappeared in the night. Cops say they are following up leads into the incident but there are conflicting reports as to what type of vehicle was used in the hold-up.
