Attorneys say Phone Registration won’t be a deterrent to crime

In respect of phone registration, the attorneys concluded that it won’t be a deterrent to crime because criminals will find ingenious ways to beat the system.

“To me the prepaid registration system is a waste of time. That is not for me to argue, I think the phone companies are to argue it. But I can tell you at least five reasons why that’s a waste of time.”

“That’s one of them. That’s obviously one of them; roaming. If I want to make a phone call and I know that my prepaid sim card is registered, how important is that crime to me? The system is so organized that I can get a roaming sim card. I can go further. You can make calls from Sams and the mall in Chetumal. Vice versa, you can make calls using a Mexican prepaid phone well into our borders and the same thing from Melchor. In fact, up to last year I don’t know if it still continues but you could buy prepaid sim cards from Melchor and use it in Belize so if I really want to make that call I will do it. There’s internet telephony, I can make a call using that. There are so many other things; I have said pay phones. And for someone who has been in the telecoms industry for twenty years, I could tell you that when it all started, it started from your home phones when it was analog phones, when nobody was able to identify who made that call. Once you went to the digital age, the threatening calls went to pay phones. Once you moved to prepaid, the threatening calls moved to prepaid but there’s nothing to say that the criminal won’t come up with something else. So in my view it won’t achieve what they’re trying to achieve from it.”

I remember my Dad commenting on how our country is heading towards communism under Said Musa, that may have been the words of a lifelong UDP as I would really like to ask my Dad now and under this administration how he feels about this move to strip us of our rights. I would totally agree with this measure if we had a competent police force but come on we all know these fools can’t even catch a sexually transmitted disease from a sick prostitute. This is nothing but the tactics of an oppressive despot. My people you need to think look and open your eyes; what if they chose to around election time spy on suspected people that work for the government or some institution with political ties? This is a regime of oppression. Tell me these fools had the guy that raped the 4 year old and they couldn’t produce enough evidence to keep him locked up? Come on BS Dean and Doug you know the fools you have to work with so don’t shove crap in my face and the Belizean people’s face and call it flowers. Then again maybe this is all a show with dual purposes one to check on the competition (you know the cartels you protect competition) and the other to keep an eye on the people who oppose you. My Granddad used to say that this country is heading down the wrong path and a day will come when they will send their people in the night to take us away if we oppose them. I fear that his words are coming to past and I am glad he is not around to see it and all the good people that built this country have now past along. Their vision of a free and democratic society is now just a perverted illusion the masks a communistic and authoritarian society in the making. My people I would rather to be governed by a whole administration of Said Musa’s than by the arrogance of one tyrant, for he rules in absolution and with the opposition of none in his regime.
I agree with all your statement Nigel but the sad part is that the people are divided due to politics even do they might see the consequences of their decisions they keep praising this fools saying that they are doing great when we are watching the atrocities they are doing. due to politics some people are blind after they start to feel the blow or pinch they start to bawl.
