Ugundani Dance Group at the Bliss this Saturday
Fans of Garifuna music are in for an audiovisual treat this weekend at the Bliss where the Ugundani Dance Group is scheduled to perform a series of songs and dances during a one night only concert. The show promises a range of music including Punta and Paranda. According to group member Hanisha Castro a special tribute will also be paid late musician Roysus Regal who was instrumental in developing the unique sound of Garifuna music.

“Tomorrow night Ugundani is having its grand show, “Under the Shed.” That theme was chosen because it’s there all the Garifuna stories, history and everything took place and so we are portrayignt hat tomorrow at the bliss, seven-thirty and the main event will be the Garifuna spirituality being demonstrated on the stage. And the wanaragua that is for the guys and the hiaruh for the girls and a special tribute to Mister Roysus and the abeyhani that is done by the women.”

“Well from what I know the people will observe the different type of dance that the Garinagu have done during the past years. We will be showcasing a little of the Punta, the knocking of the drums—mainly the paranda, the Gunjai and Sambai.”
Tickets retail at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts for only ten dollars.
