Cayo woman beaten, raped, robbed

It is always disturbing to report attacks against children and older persons, but on Sunday morning an elderly woman was viciously assaulted and raped in the Cayo District. According to the sixty-seven year old victim, she was at her home in San Ignacio around six a.m. when she was attacked by an intruder. The perpetrator beat her severely with a stick and then forced himself on her. Before leaving the house, the rapist bound the woman’s hands and feet and stole forty dollars. The woman was able to free herself and walked to the San Ignacio hospital. Investigations into the incident are incomplete but police sources indicate that the assailant may have been a former boyfriend from Guatemala.
