Ernest Shawn Thurton

A Belize City teenager was remanded to the Central Prison late on Thursday evening after being arraigned on three criminal charges for allegedly shooting twenty-six year old Keith Cleland on October fourth. Nineteen year old Ernest Shawn Thurton appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann-Marie Smith and was charged with Attempted Murder, Use of Deadly Means of Harm and Dangerous Harm. No plea was taken and while Thurton was unrepresented today, he can seek the assistance of an attorney to apply for bail at the Supreme Court.  Police report that on Tuesday afternoon Cleland was walking on North Front Street and was ambushed as he reached the junction with Douglas Jones Street. A single gunman fired four shots in his direction and Cleland was hit on both wrists as well as the right side of the hip
