Man at Work, Terryl Godoy’s New Exhibit
The well known “Man at Work”, Terryl Godoy, is putting his latest paintings on display at the Bliss. The exhibition in the Belisle Art Gallery opens tonight for those who are looking to add to something new to their private collections or simply enjoy taking in the brush work. Godoy has transformed old photographs into vibrant images on canvass and the collection also includes fictional scenes. He gave News Five a sneak preview of the pieces included in the exhibit.

“This exhibition is—it’s paintings from the past. In other words, what I used to do is to take pictures of old wooden buildings. And now that I have all these old wooden building photographs, I decided I’m going to paint them. So we say pictures from the past which become paintings now. You can’t find so many of these little houses anymore; they’ve been destroyed already. So I took the opportunity to paint that, to bring them out so people can see. What I’m doing is a style that I used to paint about thirty years ago I guess roughly, I used to paint this sort of way. The painting that I have behind me is the style that I’m doing now, but I used to do more or less like sceneries and I can make them so fast. I do them from my mind. So most of the scenes that you see here, the pretty ones, I created them from my mind. So they are not real but they are beautiful. Over the years I’ve developed speed so—I shouldn’t tell the public but I’m very fast. I can do a painting in an hour or less. I can do a street scene in a day. I can do those sceneries in about half an hour that I have developed speed. So this exhibition—because of the celebrations and everything—so for this month, that’s this month’s work. Some people always want my paintings but they cannot afford the price. So I decided to make small paintings and reasonable paintings like from a hundred and fifty up. So you can get from a hundred and fifty up to two thousand dollars. Two thousand dollars is big, but they’re beautiful.”
If you miss the opening tonight, Godoy says, the exhibit will be open to the public for as long as the Bliss will allow him to occupy the Belisle Art Gallery.
