Xtra House owner wants xtra land that is not his
In mid-July 2009, the purchase of nine point three acres of land in the Krooman Lagoon area by businessman Jitendra Chawla, proprietor of Xtra House, sounded several alarm bells as the proposed land development for a chips factory threatened drainage into the catchment basin. Subsequently, Cabinet reclaimed the acreage and a legal battle between Chawla and GOB ensued. That case ended a year later when former Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh ordered government to compensate Chawla for the land reclamation. And now where is another land dispute brewing that involves Chawla. In September 2010, Chawla and officials from the Lands Department sent a team of surveyors into the area to measure four lots in the Queen Square West Registration Section. The property belongs to Ricardo and Sheila Escalante, residents of Mile two on the Western Highway, who have developed and occupied their parcels for over twenty years and own titles to the land. The Escalantes have since filed an injunction in the Supreme Court to restrain the Ministry of Natural Resources from issuing a Land Certificate to Chawla or anyone else for a portion of land that adjoins properties which belong to the Escalantes. The matter is set to be heard by Justice Minnet Haffiz on October eighteenth, but just before news time we are told that a title has been rushed to Chawla. We’ll have more on this story on Friday’s newscast.

please feel free to add to the list
The chip factory and employment has nothing to do with the parcel of land in question. The chip factory already exists and is functional. JC recently built a hugh building on part of the Krooman reserve. While they claim this was for a chip factory it is actually being used as a warehouse. The chip factory card is being played to gain sympathy.
JC is a hard nosed businessman and he merely takes what he gets. It is up to the government to protect the environment and the rights of all its citizens.
Maybe we will get curry and tandoori flavoured chips instead of rice and beans.
GREED IS A BAD THING……….
somebody in the ministry di kollect!!!
existing functioning chip factory??? maybe you know where they are being sold because it isn’t in Belize… sure they where on the shelves for about a month or two then disappeared never to return … maybe there just isn’t any potatoes available to make those chips… or is this just another way of getting land for free!!!!!
