B.N.T.U.: Teachers say NO to the 9th Amendment

So while Mark Espat has said if he will lead the Opposition at Friday’s House Meeting on the ninth amendment, the Council of Management of the Belize National Teachers Union has taken a position. The B.N.T.U. met on Saturday to reign in the votes on the ninth amendment from district branches. Eight of the ten branches have sent in their votes and all eight so far voted against the implementation of the Ninth Amendment to the Belize Constitution. General Secretary, George Frazer says that all branches were encouraged to attend a forum on the ninth at their august twenty-fourth meeting in Belmopan. They were also encouraged to attend public consultations even though members felt those consultations had become too politically charged. The method of voting was different in the district branches, including public and private voting by ballot. So far, all the information has been verified and though only two branches are outstanding, it seems that the majority of the B.N.T.U. is against the ninth. The ninth, as we said, goes back to the House on Friday. Today, the Constitution and Foreign Affairs Committee held its last meeting in Belmopan and the precise wording of the ninth will be heard on Friday. The Opposition representatives did not attend that meeting.

I maintain that the BNTU is very supportive to the PUP, except for Frazer who opposes everbody. The president Luke Palacio was a PUP deputy mayor in PG. All his life as a BNTU official he has been supportive of the PUP and always against the UDP when they are in office. The BNTU vote along party lines and dont even care what the ninth represents, like most people, thye just want to be alarmists.

Javier Solis, and you are impartial, right?

  3. do it right says:

Agree with you Javier Solis, thought i was the only one that saw this. Everything is politically motivated these days. Want to know if Mark will change positions on the issue since he is the new leader of the PUP bc he originally supported the 9th.

I am glad that they had a democratic process and the head of BNTU whom everyone associates wiht eh PUP was not abel to manipulate their voting… proud of them how they went back to each branch and each branch was allowed to do their own independent discussions and voting… better than the so-called consultation beign done by the Governmetn because it is no longer the Constitution and Foreign Affairs Committee. I like Frazer – he stands for somethign when all esle falls for anything! Kudos BNTU for showing us hwo a process should work!

  5. Earl Grey says:

WATCH THEM RAM THE 9TH AMENDMENT DOWN OUR THROAT!!! …against the will of the people.

  6. Steve says:

BNTU has always defended what is right. As civic minded Belizeans we cannot just accept any Prime Minister to do whatever they want to the detriment of the people. It is just right to do it right to oppose Barrow at this point in time. He doesn’t have the people at heart. He is looking forward to his self-interest and to benefit his cohorts.

  7. Elgin Martinez says:

I wish every Belizean can bring thesame energy to fight crimes.
