Taiwanese technology on display at House of Culture

While Belize’s economy hasn’t diversified into the manufacturing sector just yet, when it comes to using electronics, we can figure out the most complicated devices. And that’s exactly what Marion Ali did this morning as she toured a new exhibit at the House of Culture.

Since Wednesday, the House of Culture in Belize City has been the venue of the second Taiwan-Belize Innovation Show. The event features some of Taiwan’s most advanced and creative models of technology as well as hand-made porcelain pieces.

According to Irena Chang, the exhibition is Taiwan in 3D.

“This year we bring more openness about how to improve life including three parts; one is the spouse and fun; second is the better life at home, and the third is the better technology of I.T.C.”

“I see here you have some very interesting designs of television sets. We’re not used to seeing television sets in the form of a truck or a train in Belize. This is what the typical Chinese home has in their living room?”

Irena Chang
“Yes, actually this is very typical, the kind of fashion. Nowadays you can see all of the products displayed here with a very, very good design. The small television we have especially for our children. And then the big one maybe you can put in the living room and also the bigger one you can used for computer.”

And whether you’re into computers, cell phones or massage therapy, the display includes some the latest models being made today.

“We have some thing about computers and mobile phone and the MP3 and MP4; lot of thing I bring here this year.”

“The massage chair is a very, very up-to-date and new product in the world. The massage chair has a multi-function. It’s very good for health, not just for you to rest on the chair. It also can help you to heal your…like when you are very tired…your shoulder; we have a function for your shoulder. If you have headache, ok we have a function for your head, for your legs, everything, so the massage chair actually is the first time to come here.”

For the athlete in you, Taiwan offers this.

“Giant is the number one bicycle exporter in the world and the motorcycles are quite useful here because the motorcycle does not use much energy.”

“And also we have the motorcar on the sand. When you go to the beach with the motorcar, it’s quite useful.”

The display also features an electronic basketball game designed to fine tune free throws. I didn’t have one hundred percent luck but according to Chang, the idea is to show Belizeans the latest technology on the market.

“I bring some brand new products here not just to show you the new image. I want to show you that you can just follow this way, and then you can get a better life, of course you can get a better income.”
