Items valued $90,000 burgled from home
There was a major heist earlier this month at the home of Belize City businessman, Jian Lin He and items valuing over ninety thousand US dollars were stolen. It somehow escaped the daily police report, but today Anthony Morris Junior, a resident of Simon Lamb Street was charged with Burglary and Handling Stolen Goods. While Morris was alone in court, the charge sheet indicates that Quincy Gentle and Kenrick Gill are also to be charged in connection with the incident. Prosecutor, Sergeant Dennis Miles, explained that Gill was arraigned on Monday and police are yet to arrest Gentle. There was uncertainty at the start of Morris’ case as to whether he would be tried at the Supreme Court since the amount of the loot exceeded ninety-thousand dollars. But after getting the green light from the D.P.P.’s office, Magistrate Albert Hoare accepted a plea of not guilty on both charges from Morris. The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds of the prevalence of the crime and because Morris might try to interfere with the victim. But Magistrate Hoare offered him bail of six thousand dollars and he is due back in court on December fifteenth along with Gill. The items stolen from Jian Lin He included several electronics, two high end watches, twenty thousand US dollars in cash as well as five thousand Belize dollars. It is alleged that on October sixteenth, Morris assisted in the disposal of a metal safe, which contained fifty-six thousand dollars in stolen items.
