Hirian says new job wasn’t “Good” enough
The saga of Charles and Hirian Good remains in the news. Former school warden, Hirian, was terminated from her job on August fourth by Minister of Education, Patrick Faber, due to her political convictions for the P.U.P. And after weeks of protest at the Supreme Court, Prime Minister Barrow and the Minister of Housing, Michael Finnegan, said they would provide the couple with jobs at the Housing Department. But when they turned up to take up the jobs, it was not what they were told so they have resumed their protest— and they say they are taking the government to court. But the question that lingers is why would they refuse to work when they were in need of the income? On Wednesday, Barrow said he just didn’t understand the rational behind the Goods declining the well-needed jobs. The Goods, however, said that Barrow and Finnegan provided them with menial jobs.

“I was on the radio this morning and heard that for the first time. I am at a loss to understand what’s going on. I sat with mister Good. I thought he was very satisfied. While his wife had a job and had been fired, he never had a job and he was being given one. I really don’t understand what’s happening.”

“I think the job is degrading for her and she is not being compensated properly job-wise. Mister Finnegan den offered and suggest that my wife can perhaps assist the cleaner to clean upstairs of housing department.”
Duane Moody
“So they were trying to make her a janitor as opposed to a warden.”
Charles Good
“Can you imagine these are the things but I out of respect and these offers were taken place in the presence and the hearing of the Prime Minister. I presume that at the end of the day seeing how filthy and grassy that area is the maybe I might have to take the responsibility and clean it too. Now, how do you expect I will accept something like that for my wife, degrading? As far as I concern I term it like rubbish.”
