Cops seek injunction to prevent promotions
Back in January a little over three hundred police officers of various ranks sat a promotion exam and the results were very poor. Despite the unsatisfactory performance many of them, including those who actually passed the test, eagerly anticipated the publishing of a promotional list with the names of officers who will ascend in rank. That list however, is tonight the subject of controversy as the department remains divided over the officers who are being promoted. News Five spoke with one police constable who asked to remain anonymous. He told us that he sat both sections of the exam and passed satisfactorily despite not being promoted. Others contend that there were two lists that were prepared before and after the examination. The before list was compiled by a senior officer but it was allegedly leaked when a flash drive containing the information disappeared from his office when it was sent for repair. The list, the senior officer would later attest, was tampered with following the disclosure. Subsequently another list was compiled shortly after the exam results were posted. That new list did not reflect the names of the officers who were previously up for promotion and they are now seeking legal advice to determine whether an injunction can be filed to prevent the promotion from coming into effect on Tuesday. Nonetheless, a query at the Registry Department this evening revealed that no such application has been filed as yet.
that sound stupid if they all took the test then all they have to do is review the hard copy .
we are policed by dumb@$$#$, go figure…
Who passed should be promoted and who did not they should try again (when the next testing period comes around), what is so hard in figuring this out?
This is one of the reasons we have problems in Belize. Ill prepared officers getting promoted because they have friends in higher places!
Did Chester take the exam?
The police exam had not been given in years. Many have been promoted for years without an exam. Why now are these officers making an issue of it? Go read the laws, it is not only the exam that qualifies someone for a promotion.
People can say all they want about the intelligence of an officer, but I am sure 80 % of the Belizean population don’t know their own rights, less 20 % of the law. Much less to the extent that an officer need to know. So until you are without fault, cast the first stone. Belizeans have a tendency to be big mouth but what they don’t know, especially about what it takes to be a police.
The promotion exam must be a requirement to prove those sitting for promotion have reached the necessary minimum standard required for the particular rank. It must not be taken in itself as a right to promotion, only that, without it, there will be no promotion. Once passed, the individual has to satisfy his superiors that he or she is capable of properly carrying out the duties of the higher rank.
Only this way will we get better grade of police who know the laws and are well able to peacefully uphold those laws.
