Romel Rudon & Aaron Stock, CXC Finest

Romel Rudon

Last year, SJC student Dorien Villafranco took the title of top finisher of the CXC in Belize and the region. Well, the CXC and CAPE results are out and SJC again takes the top place for the country. The two students, ages seventeen and sixteen, are now studying physics and math at SJC’s Junior College. News Five spoke to the students today, who say that preparing for the exams had its own challenges, but they were ready.

Romel Rudon, St. John’s College, 1st Place, CXC

“Well it was expected it was still pleasant surprise to kind of validate it so it felt really good, it felt like I achieved something for my family, they are really proud of me.”

Andrea Polanco

“So tell us about your achievement. I mean, how many grade ones, tell us about the grades that you earned?”

Romel Rudon

“I got fourteen grade ones and one grade two, the grade two being in Caribbean History.”

Andrea Polanco

“Preparing for these examinations must have been quite a task. Tell us what was it like studying for these exams?”

Romel Rudon

“It was extremely hectic especially about all the SBA’s that we had to do. I remember stressing over the Geography and Social Studies SBA’s, those were the ones that were very tedious because we had to carry out the surveys and what not, many late nights studying as well. It was very stressful but it was something that I enjoyed doing. I liked it really.”

Andrea Polanco

“Last year St. John’s as well got the number one place, and the top achiever in the Caribbean. Did u feel an additional maybe stress on your shoulders to carry on this tradition for St. John’s?”

Romel Rudon

“Well not really you know, at the beginning of my fourth form year I was actually planning on taking eight cxc’s because of financial difficulties but my school kinda assisted me and I decided to go for it really, it was something to do, to achieve.”

Aaron Stock, 2nd Place, CXC

Aaron Stock

“Well I always aim for number one but umm I am still happy with number two all the same.”

Andrea Polanco

“So I know preparing for these exams is always quite a task for students across the country. Tell us how did you prepare for the exams?”

Aaron Stock

“Quite honestly I didn’t do much studying but the SBA’s were a lot of work to complete during the year.”

Andrea Polanco

“Well I know preparing for exams isn’t just a responsibility for your shoulders, it also takes work from your teachers and family. Tell us what was it like for you all?”

Aaron Stock

“Well we do have excellent education here at SJC and I believe that was a major factor in our success, and our teachers who were willing to help us with our extra subjects like Miss Nora Arana and other teachers as well.”

Stock received fourteen grade one’s with ten distinctions and one grade two in Caribbean History.  Both top students for SJC say they have plans to pursue studies in engineering.
