Absent witness sinks case in Bodden murder

Story PictureMeanwhile, another man accused of murder walked out of court a free man because the prosecution’s star witness changed her mind about testifying. In February 2005, two men: Roger Anthony and Mark Alamilla were arrested and charged in connection with the deadly shooting of Belize City mechanic Lloyd Bodden. But in December 2005, then Director of Public Prosecutions Kirk Anderson withdrew the charge against Anthony. Today his alleged accomplice also received a get out of jail free card as Bodden’s wife, who was supposed to give testimony about what she saw on the day her husband was killed is now living in the United States and according to prosecutor Tracy Sosa, is not planning on returning to Belize. To this, Justice Adolph Lucas told the court, “It is very sad that people are killing people and it just goes like that” and with that, ordered Alamilla be set free. We do note that since being cleared of the Bodden murder, Roger Anthony is currently on remand, as one of two men accused of murdering Belize City resident Kirk Ortega.
