Suspect offers cop money, charged with attempted bribery

Recent news items involving police offers have not been particularly flattering but tonight we can bring to light the story of an honest cop as well as the man who made the mistake of trying to bribe him. It seems that on Saturday morning in Dangriga, Constable Matthew Lopez, as part of a mobile patrol, searched one Victor Martinez, a Salvadoran farmer of Steadfast Village. The cops found six pieces of crack on Martinez, who promptly peeled off two hundred dollars and offered it to Lopez in exchange for letting him go about his business. Lopez accepted the money but instead of giving Martinez his free pass, he took him to the Dangriga Police Station where he was charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug and Attempted Bribery.
