Carnival Road March excites the city
On Saturday Belize City was covered in colour as the 2007 Carnival road march hit the streets. Here are highlights as broadcast right here on Channel Five.

In the junior category, Black Pearl took first, Mahogany Masqueraders claimed second and Jump Street Posse placed third. In the senior division, Mother Nature’s Creations topped the Southside Masqueraders and Jam Jam Passe respectively. Floats were also judged and this year Travellers Liquors was awarded first, First Caribbean International Bank took second and the National Library Service was third.
And while there may be a lot of tired legs tonight according to organisers, all their hard work on Carnival was worth it, thanks to the sheer number of supporters that lined the streets.

“From the top of Cesar Ridge right down to Marion Jones, we couldn’t have asked for more. It’s gotten us more energized to think about next year and the level of sponsorship that we really want to get. Because we really need to be accountable to three sets of people, the groups, the bands, making sure that all that hard work that they put in is meaningful at the end of the day; the sponsors, make sure that we give back to them what they’ve, as a result of what they’ve given to us and of course to all those thousands of Belizeans that were out there and thanks to the coverage live, to those at home as well. So we’re excited, very, very flattered, very pleased, the association members met yesterday. We pat ourselves on the back for the awareness but know that there’s a lot of kinks that we have to work out in terms of the organization, the structure, the management so we are very much aware of that and we are on the way in trying to work them out in time for next year.”

“So you are already planning 2008?”

“We are taking about a three week break, we have to get through this week with the closing off of accounts, the distribution of awards/prizes, speaking to the bands. But yes that’s the idea, take a three week break and back at it again.”
The Carnival Awards Ceremony has tentatively been scheduled to take place between ten and twelve on Wednesday morning at the House of Culture in Belize City.
