Cop caught in sting, charged with extortion
Another cop has been arrested, this time for using his position to engage in extortion. It is alleged that Corporal Francis Ogaldez, posted at the Ladyville station, told a resident of that village that he was investigating a traffic accident involving the man, but for a fee of four hundred dollars the investigation could disappear. The victim went to the corporal’s superiors who set up a sting operation, providing four one-hundred dollar bills from which the serial numbers were recorded. Cops watched last Friday evening as the citizen handed over the blue notes. They then confronted the officer and found the marked bills in his pickup truck. Along with the Extortion charge Ogaldez has been interdicted from duty and placed on half pay pending the resolution of his criminal case and internal administrative review.
