One caught, two at large after shootout with cops

Story PictureTonight authorities are on the lookout for two gunmen after the duo, along with a third suspect, opened fire on a police mobile patrol. The dramatic exchange of gunfire unfolded after one this afternoon. By the time it was all over the two shooters managed to get away but their partner was shot and is tonight recovering under guard in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. According to Senior Superintendent of Police and Officer in Charge of Eastern Division, Allen Whylie, the patrol was on Fabers Road near Excelsior High when they spotted a black two door Pontiac Grand Am that is known to be involved in various gang activities.

Whylie says that as the car approached the police vehicle and before the cops could react, the occupants of the Pontiac rolled up their windows and the car sped off. Immediately the police put on their lights and sirens and followed in hot pursuit down Fabers Road, across Central American Boulevard and into Faber’s road extension. That’s when Whylie says the cops came under attack.

“Several shots were fired at the police direction from that vehicle. Eventually the vehicle came to a stop in a yard at the corner of Fabers Road and Custard Apple Street in the Port Layola Area. Police were immediately behind. They observed three male persons came out of the vehicle rapidly, two were armed. They fired at the police. The police exited their vehicle, pursued and fired, and as a result, one male person was shot in the left shoulder. This person is one Curtis Pook, nineteen years of a Fabers Road address.”

“Is he known to the police?”

Sr. Supt Allen Whylie
“We are still searching our records; we know that the vehicle is known to us. It’s from the Backa Town area. We also know that the Backa Town area people have a problem with the Gill Street people and they were in that general vicinity, Obviously up to no good.”

“Was anything found inside the car?”

Sr. Supt Allen Whylie
“Subsequent search of the vehicle here at the compound led to the discovery of two nine millimetre live rounds in the backseat as well as a small quantity of cannabis.”

“I want to reassure the public that we will remain out there vigilantly. We will continue to maintain our high visibility, and we will try as much as possible to maintain law and order and we will not be allowing people to shoot at us without responding appropriately according to law.”

Curtis Pook is expected to be charged with possession of drugs and unlicensed ammunition.
