Sawmill Shooting leaves guard dead; minor questioned

The shooting death of forty-one year old Selvin Williams, a resident of Bladden Village does not appear to be a case of murder.  The watchman, who was employed at Gomez Saw Mill on the Southern Highway, was shot once to the right side of his head on Monday evening.  When Punta Gorda police reached the scene of the incident, they encountered William Ical, a laborer of the village, who was reportedly with Williams when a sixteen gauge shotgun was discharged.  The blast fatally wounded Williams who was later transported to the Punta Gorda Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.  Police retrieved the weapon as well as two live rounds of sixteen gauge cartridges and an expended shell.  Ical has also been detained pending an investigation.  News Five understands that he will be charged in connection with causing Williams’ death following directives from the DPP’s office.
