Voice of the Bay will be held tonight

Story PictureTonight the official September Celebrations activities continue with the Voice of the Bay competition. The event is being organized jointly by the Celebrations Committee and the Saint George’s Caye Day Society. This afternoon promoters for the show stopped by our studios to encourage the public to participate.

Lincoln Gillett
“Many of us might not be prepared but come with your voices to sing nine to ninety nine and be prepared to give us the feel, because what the judges will be looking for is to see how the songs come from you. And that’s one of the reasons why we keep talking about accapella because you cover up a lot of stuff with backup or background music. What we are also looking for is to see your interpretation what it means, what these songs mean to you.”

Sharon Pitts
“One will be the patriotic song, the other will be a popular song or contemporary song of the singer’s choice, apart from that we are asking that it will be, what Mr. Gillett referred to as accapella, without accompaniment so that we get the richness of the voice, the gift of the singer.”

The first place winner will be awarded a mahogany and zericote sculpture and shield carved by Ignatius “Tony” Peyrefitte. The event is scheduled to start at seven tonight at the Memorial Park.
