No witnesses, no case against accused murderers
Almost two years after they were accused of murder, today two Belize City men walked out of court free men. In January 2006, seventeen year old Alfred Tillett and twenty year old Albert Allen were arrested and charged for the killing of twenty five year old Bruce Cocom who was shot in the chest as he stood in front of a store on Central American Boulevard in Belize City. The case meandered through the courts until April of this year when the charges were withdrawn and reinstated on the same day. According to our sources, prosecutors were forced to make that decision because eyewitnesses kept changing their minds about testifying. And tonight it seems that’s exactly what happened again as none of those witnesses showed up in court. Prosecutor Merlene Moody was left with no choice but to ask Justice Troadio Gonzalez to withdraw the charges.
