Battle of the Bands/ Soundfest top weekend events
Carnival might have been postponed but as we found out today, there’s still plenty of holiday activities taking place this weekend. First on the list is the second annual Municipal Multicultural Fair and Battle of the Bands, organized by the Belize City Council.
Zenaida Moya, Belize City Mayor
“For a long time, Belizeans have been saying ‘after the tenth parade we no gat nothing much fu do’. Well now we are bringing that back and that will also be a main feature on the tenth September. We are also including the whole multi-cultural aspect of it, again we are diverse people and we appreciate that fact that we are a diverse nation. So it will be the bringing together of all the ethnic groups, their food, culture, their dances, their music, you know, everything.”
“I must say that Lucio and the New Generation will be back to defend his title and so Belizeans this is definitely history in the making. This is something that you can come out and say ‘you know what after twenty-six years I was there to be a part of the Battle of the Bands’, so we will be having ten entries.”
“There will be nuff security so parents, young people alike, everybody can feel contented in knowing that there will be security on the grounds and around the grounds to ensure that nothing happens at our event.”
The event will take place on the grounds of the Belize Technical College on Freetown Road and will include a bake off competition, several contests and games as well as mechanical rides and free medical tests.
Music lovers can also look forward the Belize Sound Fest this weekend.
According to coordinator Tony Wright, the six hour show is designed to keep audience members out of their seats.
