Police promise safe September celebrations
While authorities have had to focus much of their attention on the recent wave of shooting violence in Belize City, the cops are also getting in gear in preparation for the long list of public events associated with the September Celebrations. This afternoon, the police stressed that their strategy is to ensure everyone’s safety.
Sr. Supt Chester Williams, Deputy Commander, Eastern Division
“As we are quite aware, yesterday we had the launching of the September celebrations activities and the police department must play a very integral role in order for the success of the various activities that will occur throughout the month of September. We will be using the recruits who are in training as a part of our deployment. We will also be getting some assistance from Police Headquarters Belmopan in the form of senior police officers and likewise, other ranks to complement our effort in Belize City so that we could maximize, stretch our human resources. And again, high visibility is very very important and that is what we want to show. We want to show a sign of force, police officers covering all the various traffic areas because again, we know that people do a lot of shopping during the September celebrations because they prepare themselves to go to these various events. So we want to ensure that the citizenry are very secure whilst they are doing their shopping and even when they are at an event trying to celebrate the twenty-sixth anniversary of our independence or the Battle of St.George’s Caye.”
