Taiwan donates cash/supplies to relief efforts

Story PictureIn news regarding the destruction in the north, this morning, the Republic of China on Taiwan officially handed over a cheque valued at four hundred thousand Belize dollars towards the hurricane relief efforts. Taiwanese Ambassador to Belize, Ting Joseph Shih presented the money to Prime Minister Said Musa this morning during a brief ceremony in Belmopan. The cash donation is accompanied by a mobile medical team made up of six doctors, thirty-thousand pounds of rice and other food supplies, papaya and vegetable seeds, fifteen-thousand pounds of fertilizer and thirty-four thousand pieces of clothing. Taiwan’s technical mission in Central Farm will be handling the agricultural aspect of the contribution. The doctors will be providing free medical services between September tenth and the twenty-first, initially in the northern districts but the group also plans to visit other areas of the country.

In related news, this afternoon the Belize Medical Associates also announced that on Sunday September second, a medical team from their hospital will be conducting clinics in Chunox and Copper Bank in the Corozal district. The consultations and any necessary medications will be free of cost. Patients in Chunox will be seen between nine and noon while the clinic in Copper Bank will take place between one and four. According to officials at Belize Medical Associates, the visit is being done in coordination with the Corozal Red Cross.
