Thief’s tambola: fishing for phone cards

Eric Barrow

Thieves are becoming craftier at finding ways to get their loot, but a robbery that occurred on November tenth takes the prize for creativity. Fifty year old Eric Barrow allegedly robbed Honey’s Shop on Raccoon Street without even entering the building. How did he do it? Well, according to storeowner, Andy Chen, he caught Barrow in the act as he fished for a bunch of calling cards using a piece of wire, which he pushed through an open window. Barrow managed to escape with the stolen cards, which were valued at a hundred and twenty-five dollars. But since he is Chen’s neighbor, he was easily identified and after a month on the run, Barrow was finally captured on Sunday and was arraigned late Monday evening before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer.  He pleaded not guilty to the charge of Robbery and was granted bail of seven thousand dollars, which he was unable to meet. He is on remand at the Central Prison and is due back in court on Valentine’s Day, February fourteenth, 2012. Barrow also has a charge of Theft pending trial for a separate incident.
