New Year’s Resolutions from City Streets
The queen is not the only person formulating that all-important list at the end of the year. The New Year is a time to reflect and re-evaluate ourselves. New Year’s resolutions are commitments that we make to ourselves, though we regularly break them. The habit of setting personal goals for the next twelve months has become a part of a global tradition and so today News Five’s Andrea Polanco hit the streets to find out what Belizeans hope to accomplish over the coming year:
Resident 1
“My resolution for next year is to try being a better person, try be there for the people, my parents, my family and other people that need help. Try to make some change in the streets and the city. And once I make up my mind for something, I’ll do it.”
“To be somebody more stylistic, if that is a word. Just bring in the new year with prosperity, try be generous and try keep home. And I can stick to that goal so I can stick with my resolution.”
Resident 3
“My new years resolution for next year is just relax, behave myself, stay outta trouble, find wah lee nice gial and live life.”
“Change my attitude and be obedient to my parents. I did try my best to change so now I am happy that I change wah lot. So 2012 my parents can expect better behavior.”
“First I want a new year’s resolution for the people of this nation. They have been in a situation suffering for so long, can’t meet their needs and I just pray to the good lord that he can make a change for the Belizean people come election day for their new year’s resolution. Well for my new year’s resolution to tell you the truth, I am putting myself up for a councilor candidate and my new year’s resolution is to become the first independent councilor for Belize City and not only that; for the finishing of my new year’s resolution, I want to become fully a Christian to solve huge problem that our ministers are destroying our country.”
“I want stay in a job and stay focused and try noh reach dah jail.”
Andrea Polanco
“And you think this is reasonable?”
Resident 6
“Yes.”
“My new year’s resolution dah noh only for myself but also for the country of Belize; that is just have one culture, put people first, think progressive, work hard and help others and we will fight crime 24/7 not with only guns and police we will teach young people to take their physical and human get into production, register them as a business person; get them a trade license. Ina every home, we will have a factory—only so Belizean will go up to. So my new year’s resolution dah noh only for me but the whole country of Belize.”
