Former Mexican Ambassador removed from post in U.S.

Enrique Hubbard held Mexico’s top diplomatic post in Belize eight years ago. The former ambassador finds himself at the center of investigations in North Texas where he was serving as the Mexican Consul. According to reports in the Texan media, Hubbard has been removed from that position due to financial irregularities at the Dallas Consulate. While the investigations have indicated so far that Hubbard is not being personally blamed for the irregularities, it is alleged that employees of the consul sold passport sized photos for their personal gain and stole money from passport fees. Reports in the Dallas Morning News are that the wrongdoings have been an issue at the consul for over a decade and that sentiment was echoed by a number of persons interviewed in the investigations. It is still not clear what his next diplomatic posting will be, but Hubbard has said that he wants to return to Dallas after he retires to take up a teaching position at the University of North Texas or Southern Methodist University. Hubbard was the Mexican Ambassador to Belize from 1996 to 2001.
