Market vendor wounded when he fights robbers
No sooner had Belize City police wrapped up their work at the north side crime scene they were back on the streets, this time responding to a call from the city’s south side. In this case, however, the victim would live to tell his story. Thirty-five year old fruit vendor Silas Molina told police that around six-fifteen this morning, he was on his way to the market but that as he reached Dolphin Street near the Fred Westby Bridge he was held up.
According to Molina, the assailant, who he described only as a dark complexioned young man, took out a hand gun and demanded money. Molina decided to fight back by trying to disarm his attacker but the robber was able to get off a shot. Molina was hit in the right shoulder and taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. As for the gunman? He fled the scene empty handed.
Late this evening police informed News Five that they have two persons in custody whom they consider strong suspects and more than likely will be charged sometime tomorrow for the attempted robbery.
