Scouts salute sunrise on 100th anniversary

Story PictureAs the sun rose this morning, Scouts from all over the world renewed their Scout Promise on the occasion of the movement’s one hundredth anniversary. In Belize City, over a hundred Scouts of all ages converged at the Baron Bliss Lighthouse for a ceremony marking the event. Here are some of the highlights.

“Today we have over twenty-eight million Scouts, which makes Scouting one of the biggest—oh not one, the biggest youth organisation in the world. Out of the two hundred and eighty thousand people in Belize, one percent are in Scouts, which gives us in the region the best in percentage-wise.”

Forty thousand Scouts from over two hundred countries are currently gathered in Hyland’s Park in England for the World Scout Jamboree. Twelve are Belizeans. Leading the Belizean and Central American contingent is Belize’s Scout Association Executive, Hilberto Riverol.
